Star Trek: Voyager

Secondly, Star Trek: Voyager first aired in 1995 in the United States the series initially received mixed reviews, due to what some had considered to be “unrealistic”. This was because it was the first Star Trek series in which the captain of the show as well as the engineering officer were both betrayed by females, some close minded individuals at the time thought this to be unrealistic. In fact the actress who portrays the captain, Kate Mulgrew recalls how some of the execs. and producers kept changing her hair and other character traits, to make her more “appealing” until she flatly told them, that is was her character and she can make those decisions on her own. The essence of the show is that we follow the crew of a small ship, and some weird anomaly has thrown them over 70 years away at their maximum speed from home. Throughout the show we see the crew overcome and insurmountable number of odds and challenges, from murderous half robot/living machines to being tricked into finding a quicker way home for it to just be an elaborate ruse. But despite all of this the crew carries on the hope that perhaps they or their grand children will someday make it home. And through all of this they still uphold their values, to peacefully explore and seek out new life and civilizations as well as to help them whenever they can, even if that means putting themselves in harms way. There are many opportunities for the crew to just settle on a planet and forget about there homes, but they decide to push on every single time. The recurring theme and what this show has taught me is that there is to always have hope. The following clips best define the show.
